Cookie Policy

Last updated: 2 October 2026

The short version

This site sets analytics cookies only after you press Accept on the cookie banner. If you press Reject, or ignore the banner, it sets no analytics cookies. You can read every page and send a request either way, because the site works without cookies.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They can remember a visit from one page to the next. For example, some count visitors, which helps a site owner see what people read.

Cookies this site can set

The site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits. It sets two cookies, and only after you accept them. Google describes both in its own documentation, since it sets them.

  • _ga tells one browser apart from another, so a repeat visitor counts once. Google sets it to last up to two years.
  • _ga_ followed by the site ID stores the state of your current visit. Google also sets it to last up to two years.

These cookies hold a random ID and not your name or phone number. Google Analytics shows totals, such as which pages people open. However, it does not show who you are.

Your choice: Accept or Reject

When you first visit, a banner asks you to accept or reject. Both buttons look the same, so neither one is easier to press. Until you choose, the site does not load Google Analytics at all, so no analytics cookies are set and nothing is sent to Google.

If you press Accept, the site loads Google Analytics and allows analytics storage, so the two cookies above can start. Google's advertising signals stay denied, because the site runs no advertising tags.

The site stores your choice in your browser's local storage under the name cookie_consent. This is not a cookie, and it never leaves your device. If you change your mind, press Cookie settings in the footer and the banner returns. Rejecting later stops new analytics, while clearing this site's data in your browser removes cookies already set.

Cookies the site does not need

The site does not need cookies to work. The request form, the guides and the service pages all load whether you accept or reject. As a result, saying no costs you nothing, since nothing breaks.

Third-party content

The contact page, the area pages and the area service pages show an embedded Google map. This map is a third-party embed, and it may set its own cookies when it loads. We do not control them, so please read Google's privacy policy for details. The postcode lookup in the request form works through the site's own server.

Managing cookies in your browser

Most browsers let you control cookies in their settings. You can see what a site has stored, delete it, or block cookies from some or all sites. Blocking cookies in your browser works alongside the banner, because both stop the analytics cookies.

  • View the cookies stored on your device
  • Delete all cookies or only some of them
  • Block cookies from every site or from named sites
  • Choose a private window, which clears cookies when you close it

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if the cookies on the site change. The date at the top shows when we last changed it, so check back now and then.
